Examples of drug users

This is my second transmission from my plane flight to Miami. I’ve just tried to imagine what sort of a person would use drugs. I know from my earlier research that there are many types of drug users, for example, drug abusers, drug misusers and recreational drug users.

To me, a drug abuser would be a male, white American doctor that is pretty successful in his career. However, since his work always requires him to be at the hospital, he rarely gets a chance to see his family. He is a very successful doctor that other envy, thus, he has more enemies than friends. While treating one of his patients, he hears how morphine makes you feel relaxed and free from stress. As a doctor, he is can easily obtain morphine and he does so. His morphine taking habits take place quickly as he constantly wants to be relieved from his stress by feeling ‘free’. He thinks that morphine is a key element of stopping him feeling dysphoria and he inevitably develops addiction. As his habits continue, he must elevate his drug doses, as his body develops tolerance and he no more feels the initial high. Another reason he cannot stop his morphine use is because he develops strong withdrawl effects if he doesn't use it. He gets body aches, nausea and body tremors if he doesn't continue his morphine. The doctor’s life eventually ends in a cold prison when he accidentally killed a patient by doing a surgery under heavy drug influence.

A drug misuser is someone who misuses a drug under a special circumstance. To me a strong example would be a Korean woman who regularly takes pain killers from her recent surgery. One day, she finds out that her husband has been fired, and she takes 5 tablets of pain killers at once instead of just having one. She does this, as she thinks that she can cure her emotional pain by doing this, and thus, she misuses her painkillers. She would probably develop side effects from her painkiller overdose and therefore she would be harming herself.

A recreational drug user is someone who occasionally uses drugs for recreational purposes unlike abusers, who require the drug to maintain their lives. An example of a recreational user is probably an African American high school teenager who has many friends and is very popular. One of his friends is a marijuana addict and is pretty close to this guy. Once in a while, the teenager goes over to his addict friend’s house for a sleep over, and so they smoke Marijuana together. The teenager doesn’t smoke Marijuana everyday, he likes how it feels and he thinks that doing Marijuana keeps his relationship with his friend steady. He doesn’t bother to buy Marijuana as it’s too much of a commitment to him, still he wouldn’t refuse getting free Marijuana from anyone.

These were some exemplary cases of drug users that came into my head. I just hopes the 3 types of drug using doesn’t happen as much as it does nowadays.
